Not bike riding weather
So as i havent been on cb500 since tuesday as winter snow has set in ....so riding bike not an option, ive a sickly cb500s in shed with suspect faulty coil or elec fault . ive an 8by8 metal shed which is like an icebox, i have to take my fireblade out leave it outside under a cover...if i want to work on cb500s also ive my trusty cb500v outside under two covers .... hope this winter weather will end soon ..we have had red alert here weather wise last couple days so i havent been in work...

North of Belfast and it's grand little to no snow here, @Beresford what's the A2 coast road like near you? Might ride it tomorrow depending on the wind?

I saw a bloke out today doing that 15-20 mph thing with both feet down. Fair play i wouldn't have fancied it - was bad enough driving the car!

Re: Not bike riding weather
I hope it's cleared somewhat by tuesday. I have a medical at Cummins Diesel after being offered a job there, and they work on the basis of "if you miss an appointment or take a day or time off in your 3 month probation period you do not get taken on or an extension to your contract" I have already been to Daventry for the original interview in the first lot of snow we had here but it had not layed on the ground to the extent it is now and it's going to be fun getting the bike away from the kerb outside the house due to how cars have forced the snow to pile up.
On a side note, I have never seen my bike covered in so much crud as it got on that journey. It's still filthy as the weather is just too awful to be outside cleaning it. my helmit and textiles looked like I have been off-roading

Re: Not bike riding weather
Winter started for me at the end of November and unless the temp gets to between 8 & 10 degrees that will be when riding season will start.
I am fortunate that being retired I don't have to commute, I do feel for those of you that have to ride to get to work. Hope you make you medical Crash-Elmit.

Yesterday was fine James, but it has been snowing here for the past few hours and I haven't been that way today. I have to drive to Fermanagh later and I'm not really looking forward to that even though I had the car heater sorted out yesterday (faulty thermostat - something that's never happened to me before) and the heater is now toasty.Jameshambleton wrote:North of Belfast and it's grand little to no snow here, @Beresford what's the A2 coast road like near you? Started up the cb5 in the first time in about a month, did about 4 miles in total and maxed out at 110mph. Little bit different to the 145mph I've had out oy my 900

Re: Not bike riding weather
Hail eveywhere up here in Aberdeenshire, and I have my module 3 of my Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) to complete today. That is the actual road test on the truck (Category C) so will phone the examiner later on to see if it might still go ahead. Wouldn't venture out anywhere on the bike in this weather - have ridden in the snow (while it was still snowing) and it was no fun - I ended up walking alongside the bike while using the throttle and handbrake to get it up a steep hill, and down the other side before parking it up and getting a lift home. Went the following evening and rode the bike home, in the snow but it had at least stopped snowing.

Danish. Grey, wet, +2 deg at day, dipping below zero nights. Salt everywhere.
We've had our first proper day of slippery roads. Immediately there was a 30% road accident frequency increase. Darwin strikes again!
Council's response; more salt.
And not a single biker out there.
In conclusion: Danish motorists are sub-par when it comes to coping with situations out of the ordinary.
Probably because they're non-caring nitwits. Recent years saw an invasion of micro-cars, most likely driven by former public-transport-customers wanting to go from A to B, preferably while facebooking or summat.
On occasion, I like to scare 'em. They do that easily - but only when they're paying attention... Which sometimes cause them to scare me instead. Something they completely fail to notice, being all focused on their smartphone.
I'm kinda hoping Darwin will take care of the issue, but he's apparently not effective enough. They grow in numbers

I believe that warning labels should be removed from everything and stupidity will eventually work it's way out of the human race by the process of the survival of the smartest rather than the present issue that we have, which seems to favour the dumbest.

Trying to make things foolproof is not the answer.
And anyway nothing gets past a well determined tool.

Not flick knife.. Same as Stanley knife but you have to keep your finger on the switch to keep blade out.. If u dont blade retracts .

Right. Foolproofing any given process/item only causes a new breed of idiots to emerge, capable of circumventing any and all cleverly thought-out measures. You simply cannot win.
On the subject of brainless motorists: How about setting the driver license bar somewhat higher, introduce bi-annual checks (like MOT) and supply the existing fees & fines with ones triggered by stupid/dimwit behaviour or lack of basic knowledge?
Rumour has it finnish driving learners get points for mastering four-wheel-drifting on gravel. Introduce that here and hey presto, no more dimwits. Only motivated and capable drivers...

I think that replacing airbags with a six inch spike on the steering wheel should introduce a good measure of caution.

I have to agree, also coupled with that outlaw seatbelts for drivers. On the downside, I wouldn't fancy driving like that and I'm much too old to ride bikes all year round again.

Just been to North Norway not on the CB? minus 20C. Cars still drive around at normal speed and there are less 4 wheel drive cars than in the UK. Studded tyres on "normal" cars loads of old V70 Volvos and they don't throw salt around.
Half an inch of snow in the UK and we come to a standstill!!!

Same situation in DK. Half an inch of snow and we come to a standstill. And salt is everywhere at the slightest forecast of anything below 0C.freeride wrote:Just been to North Norway not on the CB? minus 20C. In Scotland they are cost cutting, we rarely see gritters. They are normally sent out in the milder weather so they don't get stuck
