Well, the ulez finally got me. Old faithful is now up for sale. I'm not happy about it but can't justify paying the charge.

It's here if anyone's interested, happy to negotiate for forum members.

2000 cb500s, 60k on the clock. Battered. Looks like a two wheeled clown car.

Thanks mate. I've already got a 2016 cb500f to use. I never thought I'd like the original cb500 as much as i did. It's been absolutely perfect.

I was reading about this the other day and learnt that many pre-07 bikes produce less than TFL's NOx limit of 0.15g/km. If they have a Certificate of Conformity to show this the bike can be exempt of the charge regardless of year. Unfortunately I think the CB500 pre-dates the Certificate of Conformity! However I would still be curious to know if it chucks out NOx less than the 0.15g/km limit? Anyone happen to know?!

Anyway good luck with the sale, I suspect tighter regulations will kill off a lot of vehicles in the future unfortunately! Let us know how the CB500f compares!

This may work for my pre 07 car though. It seems to be free to get the certificate from VW so I will give it a go.

Unless it's really ancient have you tried putting your VW reg into TfL's website? My 2003 Audi is exempt as they were already making them back then to meet the emissions standard TfL are using.

In case of use (should you run across a sump crack again), the sump thread went (despite using a torque wrench) so I took it off and had it helicoiled. The chap doing it found a hair line crack up the sump bolt mount. It wasn't leaking but he welded it up to be certain. That was 20 or 30 thousand miles ago.
