Evening all,
I was a member of this forum years ago so hello to Muttley and Netball if you are still here. In the intervening years I wrote off a car. Unfortunately it was with my black '99 CB500 and right side of my body. With 104 000 miles on it the CB was barely run in, a complete strip of everything and I could find no engine wear at all.
On happier notes a month before my accident I bought a mint low mileage 2003 CB and after my accident I went 'F' with a 2005 CBF500. I never thought I would say this but I think the CBF has the edge in handling but the engine of the CB running on carbs is superior.
Has anyone put a CB engine in a CBF chassis?
Freef.

Hi
I too would be interested to know if the CB fits in the CBF frame as I have a CBF in bits with a motor which has a broken front engine mount. If the CB motor fits it would help me with a search for a replacement motor.
You say that you think the CB motor on carbs is a better motor, but both my 2006 CBFs run on carbs. Did they move to EFI at a later date? I know the new range of CBs are on injection.

The cbf500 only ever had carbs.
The engine is very similar with only a few differences.
Firstly the front sprocket is 5mm further out on the cbf to accommodate the wider rear tyre.
The speedometer is taken from the gearbox on the cbf but it's the old school front wheel drive on the cb500.
On the cb500 they don't have the air injection system ports in the cylinder head.
That's about it as far as the differences go. Other than that it's the same engine.

Hello there! I'm sure I half remember you from before, were you also on the MSN groups forum?
Anyway, I've never had a go on a CBF, so I can't really comment on the differences, though I suspect the very slightly wider wheels/tyres might make it handle better (or at least differently).
Glad to hear that you managed to successfully bounce off a car. So far (touch wood) I've avoided that one while on a motorcycle (I wasn't so lucky on the push-bike, but that's a different story - no real harm done in the end).
