Engine constantly stalls unless I keep the throttle open well over 1200rpm at standstill. This has happened after storing the bike for a couple of months over the winter. Any ideas and/or suggestions will be appreciated. This has never happened before. Thanks.

Re: High idle speed
Mine's been a bit funny starting and seems to want to die off and stall unless the throttle is opened slightly. I'm hoping it's just the cold but I think the float in the carb / carb refurb might be in order.

Thanks a lot cheesepiece1, I thought it might be that myself, or the need for a pair of new spark plugs, which I haven't changed for years.

Re: High idle speed
Before you rush to take anything apart, I'd run some top grade through the bike. Ethanol in todays petrol attracts water and this can cause uneven running. If you have had the bike laid up unused for more than 2 or 3 weeks water might have gathered at the bottom of the tank causing problems.

Thanks Beresford, do you mean fill the tank with 4* at the next fill?

I am led to believe that in most parts of the country (but not all) Esso best grade is ethanol free. Whenever I want to put in the good stuff I choose Esso or BP and not supermarket fuel. Usually one tank in 3. The CB500 is quite tolerant of the different octane ratings though. But in any case E5 and never E10
