I had the old Fazer 600 (carbed) which was an awesome bike. I sold it for a naked 600 Bandit & regretted it immediately. Next acquisition was a Honda CBF600S which, for my riding was great. Due to work, I got rid of it & have missed biking enormously.
I always liked the look of the CB500 and went out & bought a 2002 bike with 19,800 on the clock. It was delivered today & apart from a good clean - it has spent 11 months in the back of a car garage - it looks fab & runs really sweetly. (That is after it took 10 minutes to fire up before I realised, like the old Bandit, there was a fuel cock which I guess was turned off!)
Are there any tips and bits of advice I should be looking for to keep it in top nick? Can't wait to get out with my son on his SV650 restricted & my brother on his new Fazer.
Thanks guys.

Re: New Owner
Hello Robnant, greetings from Romania. Well here are some newbie tips (CB 500 is my very first bike): Check out the spark plugs, make the oil change, check the brake pads, any freeplays in the bearings of the wheels and steering, check the condition of the tires, any leaks of oil, gas. Lubricate the clutch/choke/throttle cables...any adjustments I forgot?

Welcome Rob!
With a bike of that low mileage you haven't got much to worry about yet.
Check the sliding pins on the calipers, these sieze up and need a good dob of copper slip. Also the earth wire for the rad fan tends to corrode & snap off so check this out.

Think about a fender extender as the top of the downpipes do take a hammering from spray etc and it does help protect them from the worst of the road crud.
