Retrofitting newer rear wheel/disc Empty Retrofitting newer rear wheel/disc

I'm sure vaguely remember this being discussed on here before but can't remember where so was hoping someone with a better memory could point me to it.

The story is that i've just picked up a clean 2000 CB500 with a disc rear brake, and my daily ride that i've invested heavily in, is a 1995 CB500 (when they were still using a drum brake on the rear wheel).

After trying out this rear brake on the 2000 model and realising how much better it was, i want that rear stopping power on my everyday machine...

So i'd like to fit the rear brake components and wheel from the newer bike to the older one if it isn't too difficult (obviously simply changing the wheel is easy enough...), and if it's not a bad idea due to some technical reason! Step by step guides particularly appreciated as i'm not one for "just bodging it on".

Hi,

I looked into doing this a year or so ago but never got around to sourcing the parts.

As far as I worked out the bits needed are:
>97 rear wheel
>97 swingarm
caliper + mount
master cylinder
brake pedal
hoses
pads & disc
right hand footpeg hanger

Here's the original thread & good luck with the conversion.

Thats odd, it's working fine for me.

If you search drum to disc conversion you should find it though the info's the same as what I listed above. Wink
