Clunking into first gear. Empty Clunking into first gear.

I`ve been away from bikes for forty years but am now enjoying my CB 5. I seem to remember from the past that if one eases the gear lever towards second before pushing down into first, there is a lot less of a clunk into first. I try to remember to follow this each time and it does seem to work. ( Hope I`m not teaching my Grandmother to suck eggs!)

I've just got used to it to be honest. If the chain is loose it clunks a lot more I've noticed!

on mine, the pivot hole on the clutch lever had worn and there was a lot of movement so the clutch never fully disengaged. I got a new lever for £4 off ebay and the difference was amazing, a fairly light clcik instead of a loud crunch............. then the damned head gasket went, lol.

Pretty normal for a CB to be honest but as already mentioned make sure the chain is adjusted correctly.

I would agree, correct chain adjustment will make all the difference.

Mine is like a slight click, but not a Golf!!

Very Happy

Laughing ..... i second this, correct chain tension leads to smooth gear opperation which is very good for your gearbox.
