Cheap heated grips with free p&p

Saw these on another site and orderdd myself some.  They arrived to day and look to be reasonably well made. Got a decent rubber lined bracket for mounting on the handlebar switch. At that price they'll do for this winter.

Got them on mine, came free with a subscription to Ride magazine. Been on about a year, still working fine despite having been out in all weathers pretty much every day since they were fitted, more than I could say for the Oxford ones i had on my old bike, which packed up after 3 months of rain on the controller.

If anyone does get these I'd recommend not using the superglue provided to fix the throttle grip in place - it sets incredibly fast and you have one chance to get it right. Thankfully I did but I can foresee someone with a grip half on and stuck very fast. Pick up some Uhu or similar.

That's ludicrous charges. You could get them from amazon.co.uk for much less than that. I'm sure with a bit of searching a local supplier could be found too decreasing the cost further.

I'll be very interested to find out how well these last long term. When the Oxford one's that came on my bike fail again (having had the control switch replaced earlier in the year), I was planning to replace them for R&G ones.  If these work well however there's no reason not to get them instead & save a few quid.

Yeah I know. Amazon.co.uk charges a damn sight less to get to Denmark than that. Even adding the higher price they'd still be a cheaper option for him.

I had a set of Qxford 0.7 grips on my CBF125 and I have some 0.8s on my CB500. Never had any problem from either of them, except the occasions when I left the 0.7s switched on and ended up with a flat battery because they will run until they can run no more!

Just an update to this, four months on. These grips, for the money are pretty good. They take about 10-15 mins to warm up properly, but get to the point where they are too hot and it's time to select the "Low" setting. They slowly cool down and after another 15 minutes might need to go up again. They've kept my hands warm enough, especially with handlebar muffs fitted.

The quality of the grips is good as well - not showing any signs of wear yet. For the money (in this country) I think they're excellent value - and still available at the lower price.

Well stooby you are dam right!

On the throttle side mine are almost in the ideal position but about 1cm away from the switch gear annoyingly and would not budge any more!!
Luckily i did not need glue for the left side so ive adjusted that the same distance from the switch gear, then i tried to move the switch gear out to close the gap but it will not seem to close properly when i try to tighten up the screws, can anyone tell me why?

There's a peg in the switchgear that fits into a hole in the handlebar to help secure then in the correct position.
Also since it's the throttle side, the grip is on the throttle tube which is more part of the switchgear than handlebar.
A blast of compressed air is probably the best way of 'breaking the seal' without damaging the grip.

Yeah, superglue can be a bit of a pain for fitting grips, as you've experienced. Something like Bostik or UHU that takes rather longer to dry is better.

TBH it doesn't really matter if your grip sticks out a bit - you may have problems getting it off without damaging the grip and/or the throttle tube.

I wouldn't worry too much - when I was a bit younger and definitely more stupid I bought some *awful* cheapo heated grips which didn't really even fit correctly - in my wisdom I decided to hack down the throttle tube to 'make' them fit. Bad plan.

They were soooooo bad that I ended up buying another (better) set of heated grips and I had to get another throttle tube off ebay (I think the one I got was off some kind of '90s VFR).

Yeah i like the slightly wider grip position a lot and wont be trying to budge it  

Was thinking about taking the switchgear off n seein if it was possible to drill a new hole for it to clip into....probably wont though in case i bugger it up somehow.

It won't work. The throttle tube the grip's stuck to sits in a recess in the switchgear. Moving the switchgear would move the grip but you'd still have the gap.

Aww of course, didnt think of that as id tried the left side not right yesterday.

Having had to use a bike without heated grips for a week, even though it's not been cold, I have missed the extra thickness. With standard grips, my thumb and fingers try and occupy the same space and my hands cramp up much more easily.

Well the inevitable has happened & some time during the warm months my Oxford grips have decided to stop working so with the cold coming in I'm in the market for another pair.

How are these holding up?  At the moment I'm torn between these & the r&g ones though I'm also strangely drawn towards the Keis Chicane grips for their integrated controls & ability to work independently of each other.

Mine are still good a year on, no signs of wear, still keeping my hands warm.

Been using them for about 2 years now, still working fine, only problem (and its more a minor niggle than a problem) is the clamp for the controller has rusted a bit. Other than that, all good.
