S model - removing fairing to replace speedo cable
My speedo wasn't working today so I take it the cable is kaput and, of course, the fairing has got to come off.
Doesn't seem just as easy as Haynes says - for a start, you'd need miniature hands to get in there to disconnect the various bits. Any one done this?
Any tips which might reduce the risk (moderate to high) of my screwing it up would be gratefully received:D

I have replaced a speedo cable without removing the fairing, but it's much easier to take it off as reattaching a new cable to the back of the speedo is bl***y awkward otherwise.

I've had my fairing off a number of times, it seems straightfoward to me. You can get to the pilot bulb from underneath, and the headlamp bulb isn't too bad.

I changed speedo cable today without taking off fairing. I have medium size hands and it was quite awkward.

Haven't had time with work this week to do anything but when I get the new one I'll try this.
BTW what cable did you get - Honda or aftermarket?

I got the aftermarket one from Wemoto. Was less than half the price compared to the official one including delivery to ireland.

I had to replace mine, didn't take the fairing off. I taped the new cable to the old one then pulled it through to make sure it took the same route. Bit fiddly but quicker that taking the fairing off.
Second what pugzilla said, got mine from Wemoto and it's going fine.

Re: S model - removing fairing to replace speedo cable
Just finished replacing the speedo cable (Wemoto) without taking off the fairing. 2 hour fiddly job and got there in the end but would have been lost without a pair of long pointy pliers with cranked end to get the fixing at the back of the speedometer. Rather than wait for a road test I stuck a drill on the hub end of the cable and the clock is working fine now.
Glad I didn't start fukkin about taking off the fairing or I'd still be in the garage....

I think you might want to take your fairing off a couple of times. It takes me 10-15 mins to get mine off and the same to get it back on. It would have taken me less than an hour to change the speedo cable - like all things, practice makes perfect!
