Veggie Boots
Hi All
Got a bit of a funny question. After a few years I've convinced the Mrs. to get on the back of the bike
Problem is she's a veggie and won't wear leather gear. We've managed to get everything leather free apart from boots. Anyone similarly afflicted or got any idea where we might find some?
Thanks in advance!

Re: Veggie Boots
You are right it is not an easy question.
I'm pretty sure that SIDI make a load of boots out of a fake-leather material called Lorica, if you have a look at some of the boots here:
http://www.sidiselect.co.uk/productsmain.php?cat=1
you will see that they are listed as being made of 'Lorica'. I think they also make some leather ones, so you might want to keep yours eyes peeled.
They also have a contact address, I suspect they would be worth a ring if you can't see what you are looking for.

From my perspective there aren't many better things than leather for clothing or footwear when on a motorcycle, especially as the majority of leather is a kind of 'by-product' from cows that are eaten (there aren't many cows that are just bred/killed for their leather!). It is the processing of the leather 'post-cow' that makes it expensive... AFAIK.
Anyway, none of this helps you, other than to say, I fear that you might have to pay more to get the same/a similar level of protection as provided by leather.
EDIT: Also - well done for convincing the other half to get on the bike, let's hope she enjoys it!

Re: Veggie Boots
Welcome scorgie88,
Alot of boots while offering protection are synthetic. They don't usually shout about it but it's worth popping to a motorbike clothing shop to see what's on offer.
These alpinstars for example don't claim to be leather so they probably aren't. The only way to know for sure though is to look at them yourself or ask the vendor.

Re: Veggie Boots
Thanks for that guys. I have explained the benefits of leather but no dice. Lorica looks like the (very expensive) way forward here. Might just be cheaper to get a tag of some Lorica boots and stick it on some proper ones.

Might not be good for your health in the long run... :)

Re: Veggie Boots
Steel reinforced Rigger Boots are a cheap option. These on ebay are synthetic leather and only £22.

but then again you could try telling her that she only has to wear the gear she doesn't have to eat it
