Re: Tyre Choice!
Nice one!
What think ye of mixing tyre types?
My front Pirelli is low miles, I'm thinking of putting a Pilot Activ on the rear?

As long as you don't mix radials & crossplys, you'll be fine. My bike's running a BT45 front and a Dunlop Arrowmax Streetsmart rear - feels fine, handles fine and the hero blobs are rapidly disappearing :-)

I have a set of the Metzelers on my Triumph from 2003 and they are working just fine. Keep an eye open for signs of perishing or cracking and if there is none I'd say motor on. Only thing in that time quite a lot of the softening solvents will have evaporated away and the compound will have hardened. So not so good on wet or greasy surfaces, so be careful.

Re: Tyre Choice!
Well, when I can get the shekels together I'm opting for a pair of Michelin Pilot Street Radials. £120 the pair in the north here, unless anybody knows why this is not a good idea ?

Re: Tyre Choice!
No, I haven't tried them. The bike had Metzeler Lasertecs on it when I got it 3 years ago. I replaced the rear last summer with a Pirelli Diablo but that is squareing off a lot now and has a very obvious repair in the sidewall where a screw went in. It won't get through MOT like that so a replacement pair is necessary and the Michelins were the keenest price I was quoted by Hurst Tyres in Belfast.

Re: Tyre Choice!
I've put a pilot activ on the rear of mine and I've done about 1200miles using it this last month, I've had no problems with it, it's slightly starting to slightly lose its elliptically shape I the middle but it's not noticeable unless you really look for it, but I'm not exactly the most lightest of people when it comes to the throttle. My commute is mainly straight roads with a rough surface.

Don't forget BT45's run 2.5 bar front 2.8 bar rear. It makes quite a difference.

been wondering, how come it differs so much from the manual or chain guard sticker?
you would think that tyres of same type and dimension would somewhat require the same pressure.
i remember how i have always been told to go with the recommendation by the vehicle manufacturer, but in this case you would be way out, when you inflate the tyres of your car you always use the pressure reference from your car or manual.

Re: Tyre Choice!
The pressures on the chain guard/manual assume you're running the same tyres as the bike came with(iirc pirelli or Dunlop).
Since bt45's are a different compound bridgestone advise higher pressures for them. You can run Honda pressures with them but they'll square off quicker as it'll cause them to run hotter.
There can be variations on cars too if you change the model/manufacturer for optimum performance but most peeps don't think to find out.

You're welcome.
Ashcroc, can you point me towards where Bridgestone give their advice?
TIA.

Thanks.
For some reason, I couldn't get to the right page. Maybe it's not ipad friendly.
