Engine crash bars
Has anyone got any engine crash bars for sale? I have some, but the previous owner bodged the fitting to the frame. It is a 3 point fitting of which, 2 are bolted to the engine, but the third is 'clamped to the bottom frame. So if anyone has an idea/parts to clamp to the frame I am interested, or if not, I'm after the a set of crash bars.
Thanks in advance,

Llew

Re: Engine crash bars
I have oe honda crash bars but I lost one of the brackets that claps it around the frame, they cost less than a tenner but finding them is well another storey. I've used a thick zip/cable tie for mine as it's just to stop is vibrating about and yes, I have dropped mine a few times on that side and no problems.

Re: Engine crash bars
I already have a pair of those but I too am missing the clamps for the bottom. The previous owner made some out of some alloy, but they were crap. I have tried looking for new clamps but haven't found any, so thought I'd go down the complete set-up route. If anyone has these clamps or knows where to find them would be good.
Thanks anyway James.

Re: Engine crash bars
If they're the 3 point mounting ones you'll ground them out before you hit the pegs according to other members of the forum. From my experience of grounding out the OE honda chrome crashbars as soon as they hit the ground you low side into a hedge at 50ish mph with no chance of recovering it.
The 2 point ones look ok but look as if they rely more on the front mounting point on the naked version.
I think engine case sliders are the next best thing as the racers use them, they could also be resprayed from back to silver to be more discreet. And they only cost £18+p&p from Shep's fairings

Thanks for the info, I guess my leaning days are over I'm quite happy keeping it up right 55 to 65 mph.

Re: Engine crash bars
I'm just having a go at fitting these heed engine bars I've managed to get both original engine mounting bolts out quite easily. Need supply a new set of longer mounting bolts, I don't seem to have a problem with the back mounting bolt that has two spacers supplied the problem is with the front mounting bolt that they supply which is 300 millimetres long, even with that bolt equalised through the mountings and the new engine bars fitted it looks like that bolt is just too long( you'll run out of thread before they'll tighten). You'd almost think that the front bolt requires spacers as well?. Anybody come across this before and how did you sort it please?.
