rear shock compatability

Hi all, my 2002sy failed its mot yesterday on excessively stiff rear suspension

Lookin to buy some tec shocks but when i put my model into the ebay listing it comes up that they wont fit!

I thought the rear on naked and sport models where the same?

Waiting to hear from george at tec but thought i would see what you guys thought.

Maybe you be better  ringing george at tec, ive also sent him an email over avalability of shocks i have them on cb 500v, i like to get pair on cb 500 sy

Just spoke to George and yes they are compatible for the sy and ive just ordered a set direct through tec at 59quid delivered.

Apparently you cant trust the compatibility lists on ebay cause for a seller it is a pain in the arse to put all the details in, so most dont bother.

Not heard of that as a 'fail' before. I had (naively?) assumed that unless oil-damped suspension was either leaking/weeping its oil and/or was overly pitted or corroded (esp. on sliders), then anything else was fair game. I'd want to watch your MOT tester go to work on some of these super-sport bikes, especially those renowned for their stiff, board-like rides (e.g. Ducati?).

Also, my understanding was that once a shock absorber has lost its oil, it actually becomes softer (because there's no oil to damp the spring, hence it's softer, sags more and can thus be made to bounce easier). So according to this logic, a stiffer shock absorber would seem to suggest a healthier one - because all or most of its damping oil is present.

Might be seized. The rec shocks are rather firm though if your auspencuon is already hard the you might not notice a differance

How do hard tail motorcycles get through the MOT then? I didn't even think rear suspension was necessary. I bet the next 10 other MOT testers would not have even considered failing it for that.

perhaps its because if the bike doesn't have any shocks they cant fail them for not working

If it hasnt got any rear suspension, it cant fail on it. If it has got it, it has to work properly. Like anything else. Bikes dont have to have lights and indicators, but if theyre fitted, they have to work.
