Hi there, I can't find a replacement on ebay specifically for the cb500 - will any rear brake light bulb do? cheers.

Yeah it's just a standard 21/5w brake bulb with offset pins.
Toolstation do them!
You should put a spare in a ziplock bag under the seat.
