Brake pad backing

Hi,
I got some goldfren front pads the other week and will get 'em fitted in a day or two. I noticed that the pads have a thin metal backing bent onto them. I think it stays when the pads are fitted but anyone had this? I can't see it making any difference to the braking, I'll just need to retract the brake pistons a little more to get the pads fitted.

Hey. These are for better heat transfer - consider them radiators. I have such back plates on EBC sintered pads.
