shock absorbers
Could anyone recommend a pair of shock absorbers cheaper than Hagons for my 2002 CB500S please?
Mine have started to bottom out over bad bumps in the road with a passenger of average weight on the back.
Hagons seem a bit expensive at £130 for the basics.
Thanks.

I've heard good things about these;

Might be worth a quick PM, see if he still has them.

Re: shock absorbers
Mine has Hagons - I don't like them. They're too hard and yes, I've adjusted them.
I would look elsewhere if I were you.

Re: shock absorbers
Thanks sullivj, so they're expensive AND useless, just as well I didn't shell out the £140 for them!

Re: shock absorbers
If I was prepared to spend the money, I would get rid of them!
Be interesting to see what you end up with.

Re: shock absorbers
I've had a set for a few months now. Pretty awesome for the money. I did want some Hagons but gave them a shot. Very happy I did. Not as Racer bling as the Hagons but very shinybadseeds wrote:I've heard good things about these;

I had them set on 3/5 but gone back down to 2/5 on the adjuster as it was a little too firm.
I hit a BIG bump on a local back road, I forgot its position on the road and its a tricky little dip to spot at times. Definitely knew I hit it but only felt like it could have bottomed out. I checked the dirt line on the stanchion when I got home and it was a few mil off the rubber stopper. Thats when I went up a step on the adjuster but its pretty damn stiff then.
Heh I was also tempted by some of those Chinese ones. Most of them are the same it seems and only have 68mm of travel. Dont our CBs have about 100mm or more? Thats what put me off them.

Re: shock absorbers
Thanks for the gen toffeeroffles. Can you remember
if there were any problems fitting them? Are they
identical in size to the originals?
Is the centre stand enough, or will I need a jack as well?

Re: shock absorbers
I managed to swap mine out with out the stand, my stand mounts are buggered and I've hacked one off
Having a stand will make it easy. I had standard '95 shocks with "godsknowswhat" uprated springs and nylon spacers. They had a tiny bit of slack at the ends of travel, so with out the centre stand the new Tech ones "seemed" a little longer (1mm) and took a little bit of persuasion.
Pretty easy job in all and took around 20mins.
