    Hi, sorry to go on with these posts.

    the images in the Haines manual are so vague. It says "fill the system, see illustration". Here is it - it doesn't look like the standard coolant cap on the right side of the vehicle.

    Yes a bad design idea. One of couple on cb 500..should be on side of bike like most bike so cant be checked regularly. So its tank off... then you see filler neck and standard thermostat cap. In that pic see more of thermostat housing...than filler neck in that pic

    Yep red circle...standard rad cap in very strange location

    I wouldn't worry about over filling the expansion tank, as any surplus just vents out on to the road when the engine heats up. As long as you have topped up the header tank and there is some coolant visible in the overflow when the bike is cold, it'll be fine.
