    old fuel Empty old fuel

Post by zakisbak Fri 17 Nov 2023, 6:48 pm

My Cb500 has been laid up for two years.
I spin the engine now and then.
The fuel is E10 and 2 years old,no additives.
    Bike always starts up ok.
Should I leave things as they are or am I pushing my luck?

Thinking of draining tank, refilling with E5.

    Any input or experience appreciated.

I guess it depends very much on how much longer you're planning on leaving it laid up for, and how often you start it.
At most stations Esso E5 doesn't contain any ethanol at present so that would be my choice.
Running the engine up to temperature on a regular basis would eliminate the problems associated with the fuel evaporation, which leaves the residue responsible for blocking the jets as fresh fuel flowing though them is the best way to keep them clear and working properly.

seconded to the above. Ethanol free E5 is the way to go. Also, just because it runs don't be thinking to ride it straight off when you decide. Oil, tyres, brakes, cables etc etc will need a check/attention. its great though when you bring one back from the dead!
