    Honda CB500 Empty Honda CB500

Post by panagiotis Wed 31 Jul 2024, 10:59 am

    hello all,

yesterday morning i went to a friend who ones a Ducati 998R (8.000Km) and a GS1200 (40.000Km), the water cooled one.
he doesn't ride them, he prefer cars, has some of them.

I changed the slave cylinder on the Ducati clutch and took it for a ride.
The gear box is useless on the roads i ride, only first and second gear are full enough, the machine is a killer, Torque , tons of it...
the bike is only for track, full geared.
its an amazing motorcycle and a beautiful one, so small/slim/sexy.

then i got the GS... riding my washing machine, or refrigerator , huge !!
the riding position (...!), the hands are on a manner like the police checks you for guns, or you are at a doctors check something...
so many buttons and stuff... never ride such a bike before.
i liked that the front doesn't dive on hard braking , but the size of the bike and the riding position is not for me..
the bike gives an easy ride although, very easy.

back on the Ducati, what a difference. this motorcycle is so special, everything is so minimal done.. and everything adjustable.
loads your hands a lot, but when you throttle it, you forget everything. the brakes/suspension are the very best i have ever be with. the sound of the intake and the two Termignoni run a poem in your ears.
took a more open road, used third and fourth gear, the bike loves aggressive riding, above 8000rpm (this is for some, five/six say, seconds) is unbelievable .

return back at night and took the CB to go home.

    what a Motorcycle !!!!
    what a Motorbike !!!!

being sexy like the Ducati, easy like the GS, bla bla, bla.
NO, just being a CB500 at 23 years and 185KKm

    My CB.

be and ride safe men !

Nice review. I suppose the bike you ride should reflect the riding you really do. The 998 sounds a blast!

My older cb5 has spent the summer in Devon, under cover. Its always fired up, shakes off rain and poor roads, has taken me down farm tracks and up motorways, its been to bike meets and to the chip shop. It does the lot, drama free. The latest trip is getting me home, 210 motorway miles including plenty of filtering, a fully loaded top box and with a tank bag, on the same tank of fuel.

I'm considering another bike and would go smaller, the little Enfield meteor looks ok for backroads only but really, the cb is the better bike all round.

    hello muttley,

i ride only my CB , the last 23+ years...
the 998 is for track only, my opinion. I don't know how to ride such bike, i don't even have the proper clothes/shoes/helmet for it.

CB500, daily commuting, fast solo rides, and with the same easiness, luggage, wife and 1500Km vacation, that simple. all these with elementary/easy maintenance.

the only thing i would like to try is radial tires, unfortunately, no sizes for the CB
i will never change the original dimensions , i love the
way tacho and speedo arrows climb up in parallel from 50 to 150 Km/h

going smaller, you mean the 350 meteor i suppose, check the weight, almost 20 Kg heavier than the CB and with about 35 HP less....

at the same, meteor's Kgs is the Moto Guzzi 850 special. nice bike and very simple. I keep watching it , it has to get some more HP i think.

too hard decision, for me at least, to climb on another bike,

do agree with you, the CB is the best bike all round !

    keep and ride safe

Cheers for the links. The cb500 is the better bike by far day to day but the Ducati does look fantastic. I think the Enfields are neat and cheap but my two cb5's aren't getting sold anytime soon!
