    Hi guys

i have got a 2000 CB 500, I didnt use it for 5 weeks, now it will only run with the fuel tap in the reserve position, if in the normal position, it starts to starve of fuel after about a minute, before I left it for 5 weeks it was fine, can anyone give me any ideas

    Regards

    Welcome Andy! Smile
Forgive me for stating the obvious but bear with me; you know that down is normal running, middle is off and top is reserve! I have to ask just in case Laughing
Could be crap in the fuel tank, it may be worth checking the fuel filter. Failing that the tap may be faulty.

    Thanks teamster

If I have just read your post right, I think you ave cured it, I thought down was off and middle was run, so it seems that I may be trying to ride it with the fuel tap in the off position (middle) Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed In defence of my unbelievable stupidity, I have only had the bike a very short time. Thank you very much for your reply, I am now going to hide in a dark corner and glow with embarrassment. I will give it a run later and post on here to let you know

    Kind regards

It's not really your fault - I think the tap on the CB500 is pretty much different (the wrong way round!) from on most other bikes (that have a tap).

..one day bikes will have some sort of electronic device that measures the amount of fuel remaining in the tank and, when the level gets low, a small orange light will appear on the clocks somewhere to inform you...

    sounds like witchcraft i know.
