Re: High milage bikes on the forum
Mate of mine from BT! He didn't ride it anymore and his missus wanted it out of the garage. He couldn't be bothered to put it on eBay. It had 10,500 on the clock when I ripped his arm off (see avatar). It had a faulty water pump which I duly replaced. Aside from that it's been flawless!
Every time I saw him after that he always said "I sold you that bike too cheap!"

Mine is not very interesting mileage wise, it does appear to be the oldest so far though!

How does your OCD cope with the uncomma'd speedo? Have you tippex'd one on?

Excellent work teamster. I have always wanted to put big miles on a vehicle I have owned from new. Unfortunately, I will never have the budget to buy a new vehicle and I also don't think there are very many new vehicles I would like to own anymore.

I did my Direct Access on a CB500, liked it so much I sold my car and bought one! I'll never get rid of it, owes me nothing and costs peanuts to run

I agree. I've always liked the idea of owning a new bike/car but there's certainly no car I'd be interested in as they all have that ridiculous front now, and bikes are becoming indistinguishable too. A new CB would be ace.

Re: High milage bikes on the forum
My two cb500s aren't really worth entering on the list yet as they're 29k and 35k respectively.
One question I have is did the '90s cb500 ever eclipse the high mileage reputation of the '80s cx500? I'd almost say the crown still belongs to the latter - at least in people's minds. The cx still seems to be regarded as the bike that regularly clocked up "interstellar mileages" - even if the cb proceeded to replace, equal and perhaps surpass the placky maggot.
As for owning a vehicle from new and piling the miles on, I've only ever done this once. It was back in 2004 when I bought a Ford Focus 1.8 petrol for 10 grand. I still run it every day but it's only got about 110k on it. Front nearside wheel arch is rusting at the top, and there's an annoying intermittent electrical fault of some kind that causes the speedo to stop working and a loss of power as though it's gone down onto three cylinders. This goes on for about a mile usually whereupon the bastard rights itself and all is as it should be. I have no idea what the problem is but it's been like this for about a year now.

I almost wish it would just die once and for all so that the fault could be ID'd and rectified.

i would bet that it is a dodgy sensor or a dodgy connection somewhere. The difficult question is where!
Have you tried getting the fault codes read/buying a reader?
The internet (well, google) thinks it could be a TMAP (temperature and manifold air pressure) sensor or one of the coil packs (assuming yours has them).
Anyway, I've properly derailed the thread now :)
In an attempt to get it back on track I'm going to add your bikes to the list - not because they are high mileage but because having more entries in the list makes it better for looking at the mileage distribution:

My wife has a 98 micra and its been a ordeal to get it through its last two mots(ncts ireland) as rust rot has set in and it has only 56k miles... it be scraped at next test sad really like new car. Trevor your focus it sounds like a coil pack as fords are known for it coil pack connects to spark plugs. Dont know about you speedo?

Re: High milage bikes on the forum
Added mine in, was around 13,900 when I bought it a couple years back from the original owner. Still needed a fair few jobs doing though to get it back to tip top like I suppose a bike that has been sat around in a Cornish barn that long would.
While we are talking cars I've got a 1.25 2001 fiesta, that just yesterday I took over the big 100,000. The car has been in the family not quite from new but almost (13-14 years) and has been very reliable - engine still feels great, burns very little oil and amazingly no significant rust.

I have put 80k on my 1.0 VW Polo but it had 44k on there already when I bought it. It is currently undergoing a rather serious wallet diminishing engine rebuild atm. Just because it is an old hatch back does not mean it doesn't deserve some love. Just like the humble CB.
