Re: High milage bikes on the forum
2 owners. Paid £310 for the bike in Oct 2012, have full service history, all receipts for work done, all MOT certificates. The guy that owned it originally had it serviced by the same company every year but never did any work on it himself, so he had lots of noisy exhaust, loose chain sticking brakes, etc ,advisories as well.
The engine has never been out of the frame or had tappets adjusted, carbs have never been touched, I fitted a new tensioner and uprated the clutch with stronger springs. Also replaced rear wheel as one of the later service documents said the drum was out of round (no idea why or how). Bike still does an indicated 120mph when I get the chance to open her up.
Basically its the best £310 I have ever spent.

Re: High milage bikes on the forum
holy crap that's a steal at twice the price. How come he sold it so cheap or was it an ebay auction where nobody was bidding? It's ace that it's had so few owners too. And the fact that there's been no shimming in over a 100k needs acknowledgement as well.
When machines try to take over the world I hope they're not made by Honda else we're all knackered!!

Probably a bit of both. he wanted the space for a new bike he had bought so wanted it out of the way.
I was wary about buying something going that cheap on ebay, but in correspondence with the seller he was quite happy to ride it to my address as long as I paid for his journey home (bike was near London), so I figured it must be alright.
When I got there he wheeled the bike out of his garage and parked it on the centre-stand and said "try it for size". The moment I sat on it I knew it was the bike for me - everything just fell into place - I did not have to look to see where to place my feet on the pedals, etc. The ride home was in the pouring rain, and I got well and truly soaked but it mattered not, it was the best ride I had ever had, even beating a kwak Z400 I once owned until it seized. I got onto the dual carriageway towards Silverstone and opened the throttle wide while in third gear to pass a row of cars, expecting it to gradually speed up, instead I was nearly thrown of the bike backwards! wow that was some acceleration!! no wonder I had a grin a mile wide when I arrived home.

Re: High milage bikes on the forum
I read in the Haynes Manual that two Japanese test riders were out testing the CB500 and when they stopped for a Saki break, the one said to the other, "is this bike supposed to be this good"
That's a fair testament.
I have a smile on my face every time I go out on mine.
Happy Days.

Mine has literally just clocked 30000 today so seems like a newby on here. It is a 2002, looks older if I'm honest, it's a real work horse, and I don't think I'd ever sell it.

Re: High milage bikes on the forum
Yes i dont think i will sell mine either... my cb500v has 44k... and blue cb's has 18k...it be going to cousin to do his test... then it come back to me when hes done with it.... i dont see point off selling on cb they will never fetch a lot of money....and are an ideal second bike...(i can under stand selling on to get new bike) but i think cbs value is more than trade in value for bigger bike.

Re: High milage bikes on the forum
Yeah definately seem to be generally good value and holding up. I've had every part of mine apart rom one time or another including the spare engine I rebuilt for it. Gonna swap them at the next oil change to see how well it goes then sell the spare on later I think. Need some side covers for it as 3 of the 4 side and radiator covers are cracked/lugs broken. That seems to be a bit of a design flaw. Each side panel having 3 different fixings, and the lugs are poor.

Now that it has given awesome service and has 68k, rising by 1k a month, I do not consider it high. What type of milage do other forum members have and how many have been around the clock with a bike thats still on the road? If we make a list, each time someone wants to add their bike they can copy the list so far and paste it into their post with their own addition;

I was waiting for Sully to put on a few more miles so I could come in and undercut. But now you've pulled the carpet out from under that idea !!!
Mine's on about 17.5 K at the moment.
